Yes Pilsen, I agree with you. It's more of a problem. It is about SEO strategies that must be really enhanced to be findable in search engines.

I wouldn't cal being unfindable "a sin of blogging" - it is more like a problem. And a very common problem btw. Many thousands and probably even millions of private blogs cannot be found by a vast audience. If there any solutions? Well, I defientely recommend smart SEO strategies. But only smart ones, black SEO will ( 95% sure ) will put such a website into a Google's "sandbox". And this is far from being funny...(((

Hi Tom,
Very informative for me because of my initiating a new website and getting into technical writing. I am a student at Kaplan University and will be graduating in March 2010 with BA in Communications. I want to break into freelance writing and blogging as well as podcasting. My email is cgood888@aol.com.

Thank You,
Charles

Hi Tom,

I think categories are fine, tbh. Actually, I rely on them quite a bit for getting my bearings on a site and/or to see what the theme of the site is.

Maybe I didn't express myself clearly enough but what I meant was the actual position on the categories, i.e. lower right corner. Just found this interesting.

Great article by the way.

Maybe consider compiling the series and distributing it as an tutorial ebook etc. The quality is very good.

Just my 2 cents.

Regards,

Ivan

Thanks for the tip about categories versus topics. I think I put the categories widget back there while writing the post, to be honest. I figure it can't hurt to give people another mode of navigation if they want it. However, I recognize that very few people would ever use that, so perhaps I should tank it.

Joseph, thanks for the note about the All in One SEO plugin. I didn't realize it was a somewhat shaky technique with SEO, given how common that plugin is used. I've been rethinking plugins altogether lately anyway. My site's loading time without plugins is about 6 seconds, sometimes less. With the 29 plugins activated, the loading time is about 12+ seconds. I'm not sure the plugins are worth the extra loading time. I also think that sites with fast loading times get more page views. What's your take on plugins? Worthwhile? Unnecessary bulk?
