Nara, thanks for the detailed comment. I tend to agree about the need for brevity and concision. Maybe I overstated my point about length not mattering in comparison to content/story? I do find that I want a writer to get quickly to the point. I try to include personal experiences because it moves me towards story, which can keep an audience's attention.

(By the way, your email address looks spammy. Not sure why you have the email address you do -- is it encrypted or something?)

Hi Tom,
A point well made.
Two thoughts-
1- You claim that saying that a post is too long actually means that it's badly written and it's simply boring. I agree with you and you demonstrated it well.Though, I do think that people's patience has gotten shorter, especially over the internet. You can see it on youtube for example that short videos are getting more successful than long ones, and popular videos are getting shorter and shorter every day. People want to see the essence, the punchline, and they want it in SHORT. So I think that it's a combination of having to נק interesting with all the ways you offered, and also being sensitive to the patience your audience has.
2- This post of yours is not short, but is still interesting. You wrote it with your personal experience and combined the things you offered in it.
A very interesting subject, and I think there's much more to think and to say and to discuss over this matter. thanks!

Rengaraman, thanks for the comment. I was conflicted about the examples I used. Perhaps I should just stick to blog examples. The reason I used the Tech Comm Journal is because whenever we talk of dry, boring writing, that journal always comes up. So I thought, what is it about the TC Journal that is so boring? But it may not be fair to apply standards of literary appeal to an academic journal.

Tom,
To be honest, in the beginning, I thought you're comparing apples to oranges. But you had justified nicely at the end. I am not sure how this rule is applicable to Technical Journals.
