your query-er should check out BloggingBasics101 by two very successful 'mommy' bloggers. they recently published a few podcasts on blogging etiquette, the last of which was about lurking and commenting. very informative, and cute oklahoma accents.

I like it when blogs, professional or personal (is this distinction really THAT helpful?), have a theme, be it technology, fitness, family, etc, but the author writes posts that somehow make a lot of different life experiences relevant to that theme.

I think that takes talent, not to mention a certain narcissism that everything that happens in your life is pretty darn interesting.

my favorite blogs are written by people who write about their daily lives, again revolving around at least a general theme, in such a way that I crave hearing about everything last thing. Unlike my kids, who I wish would just be quiet sometimes.

Enjoyed this post and have visited your blog before. Just never commented. I love blogging and do it for personal reasons. I like what you say about the comments. It's great to have interaction and discussions.

I've been blogging since 2002, when blogs were called online diaries. My blog is purely personal. I do moderate comments, to weed out the spam (although Typepad does a pretty good job of catching it) and to delete any comments that are offensive. I do publish opinions that are different or that disagree with what I've written, but I will not permit harrassing or abusive posts. Of course, I get to detemine what "harrassing" and "abusive" mean. I've only closed comments once, on a post that was so personal that I did not want to deal with them. It was a good decision.

I just started a blog, and I relate with a lot of your comments. I started out with two blogs, but have moved them to one (http://neverkingdom.net). It wasn't that I couldn't maintain both blogs, but after a couple days of writing, I started to like the kind of writing from one blog a lot better than the other. I wanted to merge the two "voices" together. I haven't written a lot since high school really, so I'm rediscovering the art; I'm also rediscovering how I like to write. Like you say, it's an enjoyable thing, or at least it should be. I think I'll try what you say and open up comments. No one really reads the blog right now, so moderating comments has been easy, but it's still a hasle. Anyway, thanks for the commentary and good ideas.
