Great article! And I agree totally. I started a blog yesterday (Jan 19,2009) and within 6 hours a reference to it was in top spot on Google. It was more of a test actually. I researched a specific phrase in google keywords and grew it organically by submitting to a number of sites (DIGG etc).

The site is not at number 1, the DIGG link is, and you can follow that back to my blog. The potential in growing sites organically is mind boggling. Being in top spot on DIGG will drive traffic and links, eventually the blog itself will rise in Google on it`s own because of the linking it gets through DIGG, among others.

Back to research mode ... cheers,

Bad corporations and now smaller companies are using blogs more and more to attack the competition....cheap immoral negative marketing. Carefully judge intentions not hits and particulary question anonymous posters or blog owners.

Shel, how cool to get a comment from you. I listened to your <a href="http://www.idratherbewriting.com/2007/03/19/corporate-blogging-five-rules-for-success-in-the-blogosophere/" target="_blank">podcast with Brian Oberkirch </a>the other month and really liked it.

Thanks for the info about Googling the name Robert. That's really interesting. I tried Googling Shel too to see if your name rose to the front too. Unfortunately Shel Silverstein still predominates ...

Thanks for reading my blog.

I think the best example of Google Juice is demonstrated when you type in the word: "Robert." Scoble occupies the first three results. Clearly he is not as famous as Mr. Di Nero, or Redford or a half dozen other "Roberts."

But this is how the google spider and algorithms work. It shows the power of blogging for a business and the danger of not blogging as well.
